Tips for Open & Assessment Day
For many of you, the Cabin Crew Open Day and Assessment Day can be something new. Some of you have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. Therefore it is very important that you go to these recruitment events well-prepared. Take a look at these 7 tips that will move you closer to your dream job.
1. Punctuality
DO NOT be late! Go to the designated place at least 30 minutes before the start. You will have time to look around and get to know other candidates.
2. Professional Appearance
As a future flight attendant representing the airline, your appearance is one of the important parameters. You have about 6 seconds to make an excellent first impression on the airline representative. Recruiters are making a picture of you from the first meeting. What clothes you are wearing and how you present yourself is very important.
Ladies:
a classic suit with a skirt and, a single-colored blouse (the length of the skirt should be to the knees)
skin color stockings and closed heel shoes
hair styled in a French twist or a bun (hair should not touch the collar)
do not forget to wear make-up
manicure in classic style
Gentlemen:
a classic one-button suit, trousers, and a one-color shirt
a one-color tie that goes well with the suit
socks that match the suit and polished shoes
short hair (your hair should not touch the collar and be careful with any gel)
well shaven, clean face
clean and short nails
Make sure you have a watch.

3. Communication
Try to have fun with your colleagues right from the first moment. Be friendly and smile! This will show you are a communicative type and able to work with a team of different people. Perhaps you will not see any of the airline representatives around you, but believe me, you are being watched from the first moment you enter the hotel lobby.
4. Team work
During teamwork, follow the basic rules. Under no circumstances, interrupt your colleague. Talk in a way that everybody around you can hear. Listen carefully and try to engage silent candidates (eg “That’s a good idea, what do you think, Rachel?”). This will show that you have listened carefully, have thought, have a sense of teamwork, and you can help others.
5. Company History
Make sure you have enough information about the airline you want to work for. Visit the official website of the company to find out what is their vision, how many aircraft it owns, what are their destinations, what plans for expansion, etc. You can get the question: “How do you think you would fit into our airline?” With the information you will have, you can calmly answer and prove that you really want to work for this company.
6. Final Interview
Watch out for your body language. Do not cross your hands or feet and sit upright. Speak slowly and smile! Remember, you could be the face of this airline, so show them you’re the right candidate.
7. After Assessment Day
What to do after an unsuccessful attempt with my online application or an unsuccessful Open & Assessment Day?
Failure with an online application
If you are not successful after your online application, do not bother your head. Be honest with yourself and see again if you meet the minimum requirements for this job. You may not have sufficient practice in customer care. Maybe your resume contained grammatical errors.
Airlines do not provide feedback from the overwhelming majority. They simply do not have the time to do so because of the huge number of applications received.
If you’re worried and don’t know why you weren’t shortlisted and invited to audition, feel free to contact me. After reviewing your CV, I will recommend changes. Then it is up to you how you decide to continue.
After an unsuccessful online request, a waiting period of 6 months is recommended before you can submit a new application. Airlines give you the opportunity to complement your missing experiences or skills and be better prepared for your next attempt.
Unsuccessful Open Day + Assessment Day
Also, don’t worry about the failure of Open Day. Again, think about how the whole event went and be honest with you. Did you answer the questions, how did you train? Did you look too nervous to put together a simple sentence? Have you asked a recruiter several times to repeat the question because you didn’t understand his English accent? Did you forget to smile?
You may be smiling, but these cases have really happened. One of the candidates did not smile once during the interview with the HR manager and then she wondered why she was not selected for audition.
Again, there may be thousands of reasons why you were not shortlisted and invited for assessment day. And again, the reason for your exclusion will not be known.
Don’t be out of that throw and take this experience positively! Definitely do not take anything personally and try again on the next possible occasion. For the next Open Day, you will be more relaxed as you know exactly what awaits you.
The statistics say that only 3 percent of candidates will be able to compete for the first time. Personally, I met people who attended auditions 8 times before they were successful.
In case of failure on Assessment Day, there is nothing to be ashamed of. By being able to participate in this audition, you have made sure that you have the qualities and prerequisites for the job. The airline sees you as a hopeful candidate.
Again, don’t worry, learn from previous failures and try again. You will definitely be successful in the next attempt.
